Portuguese Pavilion at the 18th International Venice Architecture Biennale

2023
Collaboration with Ponto Atelier

Location: Fundão, Portugal
Typology: Installation

How can water bring people together? Collaborative installation proposal led by Ponto Atelier for Seminário do Fundão to rewrite the value of water through the studies of water typologies and systems.

Fundão, one of the Portuguese cities included in the EU Mission for Adaptation to Climate Change, suffers from water scarcity, desertification, wildfire susceptibility and over-intensive agriculture.

Responding to the site, we developed ‘Fo(u)r’ - a water mirror in the middle of the courtyard. By reactivating the water element at this point and through connecting the four entrances,  the garden regains its meaning and acquires a device for daily use by those inhabiting the building – migrants, refugees. Besides rewriting the value of water, this new centre establishes a new centre for connection among different cultures and generations.
